Tendencies towards Boredom versus Need for Cognition
The word “boredom” was actually first used by Charles Dickens, the English author, in 1852.
In conventional usage, boredom is an emotional or psychological state experienced when an individual perceives that there is nothing to do, or is not interested in what is going on around him, or feels his environment lacks any stimulus, or all of the above,  and is looking for relief from being in this state.
It is a term used more often with young people than with adults, and used more often in our business than it should be. Another overused term is apathetic.
There is, however, a lot of science that suggests there really are certain predispositions or correlations for people of school age - specifically that high IQ people tend to be lazy and low IQ people tend to be bored and teenagers can tend to be apathetic. Tying it all Together: Simplicity, Complexity, and Mastery

Mastery in any area is a combination of high skill, specialized knowledge - and a disposition towards actually doing it. Mastery must be demonstrated before it is accorded - it is why “masterpieces” were created - and is a concept we need to understand to get mastery in education.  Masters make it look simple.

Mastery, in its most basic form, is undertaking a complex task and repeatedly performing it as though it were simple, with high fluency. This only comes after mastering each of the component tasks.

Simple means that something is composed of a single element. Simplicity is the condition of beingsimplex, which means being composed of exactly one single component, or element.
